"The Family," an album with a velvet cover, is meant to touch the extended family of man. Formal portraits, bookends in this 80-year saga, enclose the central story, which opens with the baptism of Carlo, a baby in his grandfather's lap, and ends with Carlo as a grandfather with a baby in his arms. And never once do we get out of the house, whose rooms provide the film's structure. Comfort or passion? Carlo couldn't really decide until it was too late.

Vita di Carlo e di una famiglia della media borghesia romana dal 1906 al 1986, da una foto di gruppo con nipotini all'altra. Molti gli avvenimenti: l'avvicendarsi delle generazioni, battesimi, nozze, lutti, bisticci, conflitti, pranzi, compromessi. È un film sul tempo che passa e cambia le persone, levigando conflitti, sentimenti, passioni come i sassi di mare. Un film di attori, una bella prova di professionismo e maestria narrativa, di sintesi all'insegna dell'armonia, fondato su uno sguardo disincantato e saggio di chi, raggiunta la maturità, ha saputo migliorare e chiarificare il vino della giovinezza.
